4 Benefits Of Apple Cider Vinegar
Apple cider vinegar is more than just a vinegar for your salad dressing. It has antibacterial and pH restoring properties. It can smooth out your skin and help you lose weight! Having grown up in a home where apple cider is part of our everyday diet, I will continue the tradition when I have my own family.
Being slightly overweight when I was younger, my mother was concerned about my weight. In Primary , I returned home one day with a letter from the school nurse. It basically said that I was overweight. I was also given a booklet on healthy eating. A friend of my mom’s introduced us to Apple Cider Vinegar and we have never looked back. It is one of my fondest memories of my mom. Even though she is no longer with us, I can still hear her voice whenever I am feeling unwell…
“Apple cider will fix anything baby. Drink a glass with 2 spoons and go to sleep. If you still feel ill in the morning, we can go to the doctor”. Nine times out of ten, I would wake up feeling fit as a fiddle!
Drinking a mix of apple cider vinegar and water throughout the day will help you to maintain your figure and burn abdominal fat. For weight loss, drink one glass of cold or warm water with two teaspoons of apple cider before every meal. The acetic acid in apple cider vinegar helps reduce triglycerides (bad cholesterol) and helps maintain blood sugar levels.
This is not a quick fix. It is a lifestyle change. An easy one at that! I can honestly say that I have managed to maintain a balanced weight throughout adolescence and well into adulthood.
Apple cider vinegar has been known to help digest food and bring the acid levels in stomachs to a better equilibrium. It helps the body to maintain healthy alkaline pH levels by regulating the level of acidity. Apple cider vinegar also reduces heartburn by balancing acid levels. It also helps the body detox by stimulating circulation, and helping the liver detoxify.
Within a month of incorporating apple cider in your lifestyle, you will actually feel the difference. You feel lighter, healthier and less bloated!
Because apple cider vinegar can help restore your skin’s pH levels, it is an excellent, very economical, and all natural skin toner option. Apple cider vinegar can clear away oil, and exfoliate the skin. It helps with pimples too!
Experts recommend a solution of a 2:1 ratio of water to apple cider vinegar. Honestly though, I have very sensitive skin. So I just add a few spoons into my rinse water. Another trick is to add a few generous drops into your bath water for glowing skin. Once a week, you can also rub a little on to your body after you bath. Your skin will thank you!
The smell evaporates pretty quickly. Some even use it instead of soap. You simply rub it onto your skin vigorously, wait five minutes and then rinse. It works well for body odors. Just make sure to keep undiluted apple cider vinegar away from your sensitive parts, if you know what I mean.
Of course, it is awesome for hair!
Apple cider vinegar can be used to remove dandruff and smooth the cuticles in your hair. The vinegar helps remove buildup or dirt which is caused by overuse of products. You will quickly notice buildup when your hair is braided or have dreadlocks. The acidity and enzymes in the vinegar reduce dandruff buildup by killing the bacteria. For dandruff, pour a few generous blobs of apple cider vinegar to your rinse water (you need to dilute the vinegar) and rub directly onto the scalp or put in a spray bottle and apply after shampooing. With both methods it will be more effective to let the mix sit for ten minutes before rinsing off. The vinegary smell will fade as your hair dries.
More tips to come! Apple cider vinegar can be purchased at your local supermarket, in the vinegar section.
